Allen Hummingbirds can be seen only as they migrate through the Kaweah Oaks Preserve during the spring and late summer. They can be distinguished from Anna's by their reddish-brown sides and back (Anna's being green); and their gorget is a 'rusty' red rather than the Anna's brilliant ruby-red head. It's difficult to tell the difference.
