Pale smartweed is common on the water's edge near the weir. The pink variety is much smaller than the pale yellow variety. The leaf nodes towards the base of the plant are large and appear swollen. "Ladysthumb" leaves have a characteristic darkened "lady's thumbprint" near the center of the leaves.
