| Tetragnatha nitens (Long-Jawed Spider)
These spiders are also commonly called stretch spiders, for obvious
reasons. In contrast to most other orb weavers, these spiders build their
webs at an angle instead of straight up and down. They are found near water.
They often build webs in large colonies but they don't exactly make good
neighbors... if one strays too far they will be their neighbors next meal.
They can be observed fighting ferociously with those huge chelicerae. Those
fangs look like they could cause a very painful bite! |
